Let there be light
In the beginning… God said "Let there be light" and there was light.
Light is the basic amenity for living, since the beginning, man has been exploring and developing different light sources starting from fuel based to electrical lighting systems.
Even in this age of advanced technology, and till date, some people use the age-old kerosene lamps not by choice, but by chance. 10000 villages across our nation India, are still to be electrified; the residents have no option but to use kerosene lamps. The problem with kerosene lamps is that they emit more fumes, than light, These lamps are high on maintenance, due to the high cost of the fuel and cause indoor pollution as well, resulting in diseases like influenza and pneumonia; killing 2 million children every year. Adding to the disadvantage, even procuring this killer kerosene is an ordeal; the villagers need to walk several kilometers to purchase it.
Though solar lighting systems are there, they are out of reach for many, owing to two reasons.
1). People are not aware of the solar lighting systems.
2). Owing to their poverty and because of the high cost, they are out of reach of these people.
